Stan Matwin, Ph.D.

Currently Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Text Analysis and Machine Learning (TAMALE) group, School of Information Technology and Engineering, University of Ottawa, also associated with the Institute for Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences.

My broad research interests include: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Text Mining, Bioinformatics, and Data Privacy.

Another field of interest is technology transfer: the process of interaction between university-based research and the industrial R & D. I am involved with the Centre of Excellence for Communications and Information Technology, a leading Ontario technology transfer organization, as a member of the Board of Management.

With the other co-founders of Devera Logic, we are working on an exciting startup in the area policy management. We have have developed patented technologies that help remove some of the complexities of managing access policies, and alleviate the difficulties of using XML-like policy representations.

I am committed to the idea of international cooperation in research and education. As an example, with colleagues in Brazil we are building a system in which advanced data mining technologies will assist local fishermen in their daily work.
